How to enrol for French as School Subject

If  French is not available as subject at your school, you can enrol your learners for online classes from 2023. Learners who qualify to register for French as school subject, are learners from French speaking countries who take French as language replacement for Afrikaans. Other learners could take French as their eighth subject.

Learners start with this subject from their grade 10 year. The school needs to register these learners with the Department of Education (DoE) from the grade 10 year and in grade 12, the school must register the learners with the IEB through the DoE to write the final French exam as part of their matric subjects.

The Alliance Française Stellenbosch undertakes to provide the school with term marks destined for the SASAMS system from the beginning of grade 10. For the matric learners, the AFS will provide IEB prescriptive exams for the June as well as the September examinations. The Alliance Française Stellenbosch will also assist learners with the oral examinations when tested by an IEB examiner in October of each year.
